<LUISA FERNANDA PINZON REY> HTGAA Spring 2026

About me
I am a Colombian microbiologist working at the intersection of microbial biotechnology, biodesign, and circular economy. Through Pinsón, the living lab I founded, I develop bio-based materials from agricultural and food waste using bacterial cellulose and fungi for applications in sustainable fashion, art, and architecture. I experiment with natural binders, plant fibers, and botanical pigments to create bio-composites with different textures, strengths, and colors. Some of my materials follow a DIY “grow-it-yourself” approach, making biofabrication more accessible beyond traditional laboratory settings. I am passionate about promoting STEM and biodesign education, reshaping the way people perceive bacteria and fungi, and building community around regenerative and inclusive material practices.
