<MARISA SATSIA> — HTGAA Spring 2026

About me
I am a multidisciplinary artist and researcher based in Nicosia, Cyprus, whose practice thrives at the intersection of bioart, biodesign, experimental biology, and alchemical processes. Working from a hybrid studio that merges my multimodal artistic practice with a DIY laboratory, my artistic research and practice is influenced by cyberfeminist witchy approaches and influences and spans co-creation and co-cultivation with living organisms, transformative alchemical processes and rituals informed by biotechnology, natural history and the study of living beings, magic and witchcraft, biofuturist speculation, and cybernetics. I embrace non-conformity, and risk-taking, while pursuing ethical, playful, and non-exploitative experimentation, challenging conventional boundaries between biology, technology, art, and design. My artistic practice and research spans molecular gastronomy, wearables, e-textiles with an interest in flexible and soft electronics, biofabricated soft robotics and inflatables, natural dyes, material science, biofabrication, cultivation, DIY/DIT biology, and exploring open source technologies.
Academic background and BioCuriosities Lab
I hold academic qualifications in fine art, medical art and in the intersections of textiles, biology, and digital fabrication. Beyond instructing, leading workshops, mentoring, indoctrinating, and empowering others, I travel internationally partly to display my artistic work, to take part in artistic residencies while transferring with me the concept of my DIY biolab, BioCuriosities Lab, as a living organism that activates hands-on experimentation, radical exploration, and community-driven creative rebellion in a nomadic manner.
Fabricademy!
Go and have a look at my 2022 fabricademy gitlab documentation page. I was incredibly grateful to have been chosen for a scholarship at the fabricademy node of Basque Biodesign Centre, in Bilbao, Spain, in 2021-2022. Fabricademy has changed my life for the better :)
