Projects
Final projects:
This is the documentation for my final How to Grow Almost Anything (HTGAA) project. It is based on the class template. Most of the project hasn’t happened yet but I’m hoping I can implement it. Note that I’d still consult the Lifefabs Institute to check and review some of the protocol steps, especially in relation to calculations for amounts of reagents.
- Abstract My project adapts an established genetic switch from synthetic biology into a Bioart installation that is meant to encourage conversations about how Nature will react to increasing levels of carbon dioxide. A 3D printed Green Man sculpture, immersed in a bioreactor, will be colonised by bacteria that have been engineered to glow a shade of ‘hopeful’ green in the presence of increased carbon dioxide. In this project, that carbon dioxide will come in the form of carbonic acid that is dripped onto the face while it is being filmed. The desired effect is that it should begin to fluoresce as the acid is dripped onto it.
