Week 1 HW: Principles and Practices

  1. My team and I are currently developing a Biofiltration system under Lemelson MIT as an innovation for particulate matter in the air. We are developing this because we were basing this innovation off of the community and there are many construction workers who deal with health problems due to air contamination. We wanted to do something beneficial for the community and demonstrate our scientific creativity. We started developing 2025 summer and wrote our research paper with our problem statement which involved the development of the biofiltration using environmental friendly attributes.
  2. One big goal is for the innovation to be utilized on construction sites successfully. Two subgoals are to create the filtration portion at the lab we have a partnership with by developing the biofilters and to use our engineering team to bring our designed product to life by using an engineering space with tools in order to make a prototype of the final creation with sensors. Purpose: Currently we are working in a lab to work out bacterial life and how they would function the way we intend it to as we worked on streaking last week. We improve on the frequency in which we perform the experiments as some life gets contaminated and we have only little life to experiment on. We received a sensor to understand the mechanics of it before we work with more in order to get a good idea of how to incorporate it in our innovation. Design: We currently have funds from LMIT but we also received funds from other research competitions as we have set up funding services from the school. We are working out with some of the advisors and Weston Research Program teachers who have a clear idea about our process. Incorrect assumptions could be the budgeting since we have our budget plan but the amount necessary could be inaccurate This could affect the success rate of the innovation because of the money accounted for when we buy these necessities, it could exceed the money we were given or raised and would need to decrease it which could lead to incorrect ratios of solvents. cover image cover image

I would prioritize local audiences and the professors at MIT whom we are meeting in order to enhance our innovation. The local audiences are the reason for our innovation and their feedback is of utmost importance on how we can help them further using our innovation. The professors are greatly experienced and have worked with inventeams before and we always ask for their feedback when it comes to how we can make our innovation more successful. They led us to earlier inventeam winners who had similar problems and that helped us reach an idea that would be beneficial in the long run. Protecting the environment is very important as if you create an innovation that is harmful, you must look at the causes and how to improve it because it is to be used for the future generations. It has to be useful and helpful for the environment to be considered an asset to the biotechnological field. Trade offs would be that even though the innovation is helpful for humans, it could be detrimental to the environment.
