Rúben Gonçalves — HTBAA Fall 2026
About me
No, I am not a Drosophila Melanogaster, I am a Medical Biotechnology student from Portugal.
I’m fascinated by the natural world and its molecules, its complexity and ingenuity: from plants to brains and everything in between.
I’ve been reflecting on how the future of scientific research and biopharmacological development could look like and be more democratic and community driven, not guided by profit only, while keeping safety as the main concern.
I imagine a future where an individual (or a small group of people) with access to remote labs and computational tools, including AI assisted research, can focus on a research topic or develop solutions that would otherwise be unexplored and that can eventually be shared, become the topic of institutional research, or capture funding to develop actual products.
I have an ambiguous relationship with computers. Do you know what I mean?
Musing on the concept of the pharmakon.
