Releasing emotions is gradually recognized as an important alternative mental health therapy. However, releasing emotions has to be done is a socially accepted way to avoid stigma. Therefore, materials that can provide privacy and insulation are preferred. However, current soundproofing materials, such as insulation, acoustical panels, and soundproofing boards, are heavy, not portable, industrially synthetic, and expensive. Even though natural materials, such as sheep’s wool and cotton, can be eco-friendly and sustainable, they only replace industrially produced synthetic materials without meeting the need for providing a private space for emotional release in shared spaces. Therefore, an innovative product is needed to offer alternative care for people to prevent emotional suppression and the negative effects.

Week 2 HW: DNA Design

Part 1: Define your expression target
My repository is Kelly_Mycelium: I would like to use Mycelium, the vegetative network of fungi, to form a naturally porous
What molecule are you expressing?
I would choose Vmh2, a Class I hydrophobin, because it is specifically associated with the vegetative mycelium of P. ostreatus. UniProt reports that Vmh2 is involved in mycelial surface hydrophobicity and biofilm formation, is secreted/cell-wall associated, and self-assembles into rodlet structures

Week 3 HW: Cell-Free Protocols

Week 4 LAB: Cell-Free Manufacturing

Week 5 HW: Digital Microfluidics

Week 6 LAB: Microfluidic Manufacturing

Week 7 HW: Measurement & Assays

Week 8 LAB: Bacterial Cell Manufacturing

Week 9 HW: Genetic Circuit Design

Week 10 LAB: Mammalian Cell Manufacturing

Final Project
