I chose SELP-59-A as a starting point because my longer-term project asks whether a biologically produced protein could eventually provide some of the elastic function currently provided by elastane in performance textiles. At this stage, I am not assuming that SELP-59-A itself can replace elastane. Instead, I am using an existing and experimentally demonstrated protein as a baseline that I could later modify and test.
